The Government Should Immediately Embark on Genuine Peaceful Negotiation in Oromiya
OLFโs Statement on Current Situation
In the last eight years, the reckless war in Oromiya has entailed devastating consequences. Many innocent lives have been lost; the resources that could have been used to improve the lives of our people have been frantically destroyed.
Rather than opting for mutual understanding and compromise, a wrong solution that relies on military might and resources has caused incalculable damage. Such a reckless path has not yielded any solution to the ravaging war. The depth and breadth of the conflict have expanded day after day, month after month, and year after year. The loss of young and helpless souls and the endless ravage into the villages of poor households, the devastation of social and economic infrastructures, and their consequences will surely trap the country into a vicious circle of poverty, disease, and misery. A sympathetic heart and a wise gut would not dare to see this continue.
OLF believes that the only solution is a genuine peaceful settlement. OLF calls on the government and the Prosperity Party (PP) to embark on genuine peaceful negotiations with all concerned parties to end the war and find a solution to the misery of our people.
The Oromo Liberation Struggle aims to restore the rights and freedoms of the Oromo people and all oppressed peoples. The Oromo people struggle to regain their freedom and liberty. The Oromo struggle and the Oromo people also respect the rights and liberties of other people.
The northern coalition, known as Tsimido, aims to turn Oromiya into a battleground for an unnecessary war; reverse the fruits of our struggle so far gained, and control Oromiya to usurp its resources once again. The Oromo people cannot remain silent on this. The OLF calls on the Oromo people to unite, regardless of political differences, and to defend their territory and villages without infringing on the rights of others.
Once again, OLF strongly calls on the National Regional Government of Oromiya and Oromo political parties to stand in unison without jeopardizing the rights of the Oromo people. OLF reiterates that this is not a time when we count on our political differences and party lines. At this very juncture, detaining political activists and party members exacerbates the suffering of our people. OLF reminds the government that the meaningless detention of innocents should abate, and those in custody should be immediately released. The OLF also calls on the Oromo people to stand in solidarity to defend their territory and fatherland against trespassing and external aggression.
We also like to remind those who stood with our historical aggressors and exploiters while claiming to struggle for the Oromo people that they are making a historical mistake that history will never forgive them. We call on them to reconsider their path.
Finally, the OLF once again calls on all parties, especially the Government and the ruling party, to embark on genuine peaceful negotiations that end the suffering of our people once and for all. War and military action have never been a lasting solution to political conflict. All stakeholders, including religious leaders, Abba Gadas, Haadha Sinqees, diplomats, media personnel, journalists, and all peace-loving people, should campaign for a peaceful settlement to avert the ugly, devastating war confronting us.
