News Release by PAFD, Office of Media, Information and Communication (MIC)
The external committee of Peoples’ Alliance for Freedom and Democracy (PAFD) held its extraordinary meeting, on the 1st of November 2017, to discuss the current critical affairs of Ethiopia. The committee unanimously considered that, all peoples of Ethiopia including the opposition groups, operating both in Diaspora and within the country need to work together to be able to end the ongoing brutality of the TPLF’s regime to the subjects. The committee further asserted that, there are compelling arguments that need to be seriously considered at this critical juncture in the history of the country. Peoples in Ethiopia’s all angles are paying heavy prices with their precious lives. The TPLF authoritarian regime remain employing a full-scale state terrorism as a means of governance, under various pretexts. Such indefensible acts of brutalities become much harsher and pervasive than ever as the regime gasps for its final breath. We believe that, an urgent collaboration of all stakeholders is indispensable.
The committee further believes that, the divisions of Ethiopian political forces only serve the interest of the regime who is communally enslaving the entire stakeholders of the country; regardless of their region, ethnic background, political beliefs and religion. Therefore, there is indisputable fact that, all political forces must come together leaving their differences aside, to be able to remove this regime with all possible means, to restore democratic order and rule of law in a lawlessly TPLF ruled country. The committee also critically analysed and considered that, unhindered in time; the TPLF regime is possibly preparing the country for a stage-managed confilict of dangerous and potentially protracted civil war. It is becoming clear to the peoples of Ethiopia that, the TPLF regime deliberately and systematically instigating unnecessary wars between various peacefully coexisted nations of the country to validate its erroneous assertions of the realities on the ground. This is the case between the Oromo and Somali, Oromo and Sidama, Amhara and Afar, Oromo and Gambella… and elsewhere in the country. The PAFD understands that; the TPLF regime is staying on power by setting up the peoples of various nations at each other to buy time.
This is why the external committee convened its extraordinary urgent meeting following the unfolding twists and turns in Ethiopian politics under the rule of the TPLF’s authoritarian regime. The issues the stakeholders are subjected to is multidimensional, needing the cooperation and collaborations of all peoples of the country, regardless of their political and ideological dichotomies. We believe that, there are series of unsettling events unfolding in almost all regions of the country with varying degrees of intensities in Oromia, Ogaden Somali, Sidama, Amhara, Gambella, Benshangul and Konso.
To be able to address these pressing needs, the meeting of the 1st of November 2017, of the PAFD external committee unanimously agree to prepare preliminary grand-national, all-inclusive, consultative conference very urgently. We believe that the conference needs to involve all political parties of the country to roadmap the way forward to rescue peoples of Ethiopia from pending danger the TPLF regime is preparing for all to be immersed. Hence, the committee calls upon all peoples of the country to unconditionally cooperate. We also strongly believe that, it is the right time to put own differences aside, to come together to facilitate the means and roadmap for a transitional arragment, to be able to effectively foil the TPLF’s plan of stirring conflicts between a historically, peacefully coexisted nations of the country with the sole objective of staying on power.
Cooperating with all stakeholders regardless of ideological beliefes, the Committee assures all peoples of Ethiopia that, we shall become victorious thereby its fruits benefit the entire stakeholders. We unequivocally agree to work together, as we stand against the common enemy of all peoples of the country, the TPLF/EPRDF, to be able to remove it once and for all, thereby to restore democratic order and genuine rule of law. The TPLF regime is dehumanising and depersonalising our peoples collectively whilst equally impoverishing us for far too long. Therefore, we unconditionally once again, agree to work together with all stakeholders to be able to alleviate the suffering of all peoples of Ethiopia.
Freedom, Democracy and Equality for all peoples of Ethiopia!
