July 04, 2006 (Oromia): Oromo students of Hawasa University have celebrated the end of the 2005/06 academic year and the graduation ceremony of the 2006 graduates at Hawasa town on July 02, 2006 last Sunday. The festival was organized by Union of Oromo Students of Hawasa University in conjunction with Gadaa Band. Gadaa Band which normally used to operate only in Finfinnee (Addis Ababa) came to Hawasa town with its own expense for this occasion and made the ceremony attractive.
In accordance of the Oromo culture, the program was started by the praise of elders who live in Hawasa town followed by a minute of silence to commemorate all Oromo martyrs who lost their dearly lives for freedom of Oromia. On the occasion, inspirational songs, writings jokes and poems that are inspirational for struggle have also been presented. All Oromo students from Hawasa main campus, agricultural college, Health College and Wando Gannat participated on this occasion. The Oromo students then raised OLF flag and have been dancing a traditional dance “dhichisa” during the ceremony.
Mean while, a meeting that OPDO cadres called in Arsi Zone was aborted. For this meeting, although the OPDO cadres promised to pay a daily allowance of 35.00 Birr to grade 10 and 12 students of Qoree district, the students refused to participate the meeting.
The students told OPDO cadres that the meeting of OPDO does not have any contribution to the Oromo people. Moreover, the students told the OPDO cadres that they will go to their meeting only if they send their “guests” to their home. It is to be noted that the entire Oromo people call TPLF soldiers or Tigreans “guests”.
