11 Ethiopian soldiers seek asylum
August 5,2006 (Ministry of Information - Eritrea ) – Opposing the ethnic policy of the TPLF regime, 11 Ethiopian soldiers arrived here seeking asylum.
The soldiers are Mebrahtu Gebremichael Teklehaimanot, Desta Meruts Gebrekidan and Tekleberhan Tesfu Fitwi, all from the Tigray ethnic group, Abdulnasser Mohammed Abdulahi, Hassan Mohammed Hassen and Mohammed Hussein Gedi, all three from the Somali ethic group, Demelash Mazengiya Ademe from the Amhare ethnic group, Asalefew Debiso and Tiyano Dubale Kitambo from the Debub Hizboch ethnic group and Teklu Alula Dak from the Gambela ethnic group.
The soldiers disclosed that some divisions of the regime’s troops have been sent to Somalia and thus is taking measures on those who are voicing their oppositions.
Moreover, the soldiers said that distrust among soldiers as a result of increased suppression by the regime is getting worse and that those fighting back are suffering in prison cells.
