Agents of the Ethiopian regime bombed an Oromo student at Maqale University and accuse him of the act.

Student Eshetu Nuguse

Whilst there are poisonous remnants in three different places in his body, and while he is seriously injured and in need of medical treatment, the TPLF agents took the student Eshetu Nuguse to the jail rather than to the hospital for treatment. Fellow Oromo students tried to take him to the hospital, but the University administration sent police after them to detain the injured student and prevented them from getting him to the hospital for treatment. As of the day of the incident (May 11, 2006) the police have denied him any access to family members, fellow students and a lawyer. The situation is getting worse by the day for him and for the rest of Oromo students.

On Monday May 15 th, 2006 he was brought in front of a judge in secrecy and accused him for “attempting to throw a bomb inside a book store but was scared and decided to live the book store when the bomb exploded outside the store and he was injured by the explosion” without any shred of evidence. This is a deliberate setup as this has been a customary for the regime. It is the machination of TPLF agents for which they are known and widely used to accuse Oromos of terrorism in attempt to justify its brutal acts of violence against the Oromo students and people who are undertaking a nationwide public uprising and protests against the regimes gross human rights violation including the use of live bullets and killing hundreds of people including demonstrating innocent school children.

We believe that, student Eshetu is a prey of their well-known foil play as they are trying to get a falls confession out of him through the means of both mental and physical tortures. These deceitful and totally fabricated acts are favorite tools of the trade for the dictatorial TPLF’s ruling minority. It is customary for this regime to setup an innocent individual and blame him/her with an act of crime usually an act of terrorism so they can beat falls confession out the victim and detain them without any due process of law as means of controlling any political dissension against the regime.

On Tuesday May 16 th, 2006 the Meqellee University Oromo students demonstrated inside the university campus and demanded the release and medical treatment for his injuries.

The Students waited until 4:00 pm for their request to be met but to no avail.

Therefore, between 4:30 to 6:30 pm they held a demonstration in front of the university administration office carrying signs and chanting the following demands and slogans.

  • Release the innocent student Eshetu Nuguse
  • Stop detaining and torturing innocent people
  • Being an Oromo is not a crime to be punished for
  • This administration is not fair to Oromos
  • We demand to be respected as human beings
  • We demand that our rights be protected
  • We ask for guarantee of our lives
  • We ask for the right of representation by a lawyer for student Eshetu Nuguse
  • We demand immediate answers for our demands

After holding a demonstration for two hours, the Tigay area police commissioner, the local security along with the university administration showed up not to answer our demands or even consider them, but to intimidate us and make fun of us, laugh at us and scare us back to silence and obedience telling us the detained student is not going to be released nor that he receives medical treatment until he confesses and tell us who else and how many of you were participants to the bombing incident.

Therefore, we the Oromo students of Meqelle University would like to tall the Oromo People that we are living under unbelievable situation. We are afraid day and night for our safety and well-being. We are very scared for our lives and we ask the Oromo people to protect us and save us.

We ask the Oromo people to understand the situation in which we are in, protect and save us.

We ask our people to wakeup and understand the Tigrean regimes machinations and vicious atrocities against the Oromo people.

We stand with any party that struggles against the Tigrean regimes tyranny and subjugation of the Oromo people

We call upon the Oromo youth to rise up for justice and rights of the Oromo people and join OLF- true fighters for the rights of our people and fulfill your responsibility of liberating your people from more than a century old yoke of tyrannical dictatorships.

This is the era of liberation and freedom

Victory for the oppressed Oromo people
